I got here via Mike Troiano's blog. What I like about the Kindle is the lack of distractions. It's a lot like a real book: you can't do much with but sit down and read. Also I'm a beach reader and being able to read in bright sun is a big win for me. I'm waiting for the next version before I buy an iPad but I do think having both will be fantastic.
